The M-class of the first generation (W163 body code) was presented in 1997. The car was developed for the North American market and made at the plants of DaimlerChrysler concern in Alabama. In 1998 the M-class received an award in the nomination "North American Truck of the Year". In 2001 restyling of the car as a result of which he received new headlights and lamps, mirrors with the built-in blinkers, changes in an interior and 8 safety cushions was carried out. In 2005 the M-class of the second generation succeeded. Besides, the M-class of the first generation formed a basis for creation of the Popemobile
